About the temple
*Please note that we are currently not accepting reservations for site visits. We are only accepting same-day reservations.
Additionally, we do not accept direct inquiries to the temple (by phone or email).

▼About Kinkayasan Shokoji Temple
This site was originally the workshop of the Buddhist sculptor Kokei, who was active from the late Heian period to the early Kamakura period.
One day, the monk Shoko visited Kokei to commission a Buddhist statue and lived in a separate building on the premises until the statue was completed.
Later, when it was time to part ways, Kōkei, reluctant to say goodbye, requested a portrait of Shōkō, which was enshrined in the detached cottage. This marked the beginning of the temple, which came to be known as Shōkō-an.
Although the temple was destroyed by fire several times thereafter, the current main hall was rebuilt in 1832 (Tenpō 3).
The temple cemetery is home to the graves of Yoshio Oishi’s biological mother (famous from the Chūshingura story), Zen’emon Yoshitoki Yasuda (known as the merchant Rihei of Anno-ya), and the actor Kanjiro Arashi (famous for his role as the Kurama Tengu).

The adjoining room features a 4-seater sofa and a table seating 6–8 people. You can also close the sliding doors to partition the room.

・Shouting, causing a disturbance, or loitering outside the space (near the entrance, in common areas, or in other rooms).
・Damaging or defacing the venue.
・Religious events of any kind.
・Any other acts contrary to public order and morals.
・Playing loud musical instruments.
・Portable gas stoves and other open-flame devices are not permitted.

・Smoking is strictly prohibited on the premises. We appreciate your understanding.
・Security cameras are installed for security purposes.
・If you wish to use the space for photography, tea parties, or seminars, please provide details regarding the event when making your reservation. Please note that we may not be able to accommodate certain requests depending on the nature of the event. We appreciate your understanding in advance.
・Playing musical instruments or other noise-producing items is permitted only during daytime hours (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM).
・The facility is generally available from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but please contact us if you wish to use it after 6:00 PM.
