▼About Kinkayasan Shokoji Temple
This site was originally the workshop of the Buddhist sculptor Kokei, who was active from the late Heian period to the early Kamakura period.
One day, the monk Shoko visited Kokei to commission a Buddhist statue and lived in a separate building on the premises until the statue was completed.
Later, when it was time to part ways, Master Shoko was asked by Kyokei—who was reluctant to see him go—to accept a portrait of the Buddha. Master Shoko enshrined it in the detached cottage and named the place Shoko-an, marking the temple’s origins.
Although the temple was destroyed by fire several times thereafter, the current main hall was rebuilt in 1832 (Tenpo 3).
　
The temple cemetery is home to the graves of Yoshio Oishi’s biological mother (famous from the Chūshingura story), Zen’emon Yoshitoki Yasuda (known as Yoshishō Annoya Rihei), and actor Kanjiro Arashi (famous for his role as Kurama Tengu).

【Study Hall】 23 tatami mats / approx. 41 m² (Capacity: 30 people)
Seating for about 20 people is available. The layout of the tables can be customized, so please be sure to let us know your preferences when making a reservation. It is also possible to move all tables and chairs aside to create a spacious open area.

You can choose from the following four room layouts:
① Face-to-Face Layout
A rectangular table is placed in the center, allowing guests to sit facing each other.

② U-Shaped Layout
Tables are arranged in a U-shape, with the open side facing either the front or the back.

③ Classroom Style
All tables and chairs are arranged to face the same direction, similar to a school classroom. Accommodates up to 30 people.

④ Open Floor Plan (Yoga, etc.)
This layout does not use tables or chairs, allowing you to use the floor space freely. It is suitable for activities involving physical movement, such as yoga and stretching.

▼Prohibited Activities
To ensure consideration for neighbors and prevent disturbances, the following activities are prohibited.
If these rules are not followed, we may ask you to stop using the space on the day of your reservation.
・Shouting, causing a disturbance, or loitering outside the space (near the entrance, in common areas, or in other rooms).
・Damaging or defacing the space.
・Religious events of any kind.
・Any other acts contrary to public order and morals.
・Playing loud musical instruments.
・Items that use fire, such as portable gas stoves, are not permitted.

・Smoking is strictly prohibited on the premises. We appreciate your understanding.
・Security cameras are installed for security purposes.
・If you wish to use the space for photography, tea parties, or seminars, please provide details regarding the event when making your reservation. Please note that we may not be able to accommodate certain requests depending on the nature of the event. We appreciate your understanding in advance.
・Playing musical instruments or other noise-producing items is permitted only during daytime hours (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM).
・The facility is generally available from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but please contact us if you wish to use it after 6:00 PM.
