About the temple
This Nichiren Shu temple was founded during the Muromachi period as one of the sub-temples of Myoken-ji, the head temple of the Sixteen Main Temples of Kyoto. \
Located on the eastern side of the temple grounds, it has endured many changes over the years while continuing to preserve the torch of the Dharma.
The Myoken-do Hall, located on the northern side of the temple grounds, enshrines a sacred statue of Myoken Daibosatsu.
In 1986, following the revival of the Kyoto Twelve Zodiac Myoken tradition, it began a new chapter in popular devotion as the Myoken Shrine of the North, representing the first of the twelve zodiac signs, “Rat.”
Although the hall is small, it attracts devotees who pray for good fortune and protection from misfortune, as well as for the prosperity of businesses, success in exams, and healing from eye diseases.
[Guests using Zengyo-in are welcome to visit and receive a guided tour of Myoken-do.]
